We believe children thrive when they are in a stimulating environment, where they have freedom to make positive choices and learn through active play, both indoors and out. In each of our programs, we select toys which encourage children to develop their creativity and avoid toys that are too prescriptive in their use. We want our children prepared for life in the modern world and our classrooms includes two computers loaded with educational games for the children's use.

The Young Toddlers program accomodates children between the ages of 16 months and 2 years. In this program, we maintain a class size of 10 with two staff members, respecting a 1:5 ratio. Our ECE teachers plan their program carefully to ensure a balanced day. In this classroom, the play space allows for wet and messy play, quiet time, puzzles and many other activities. Young Toddlers learn through the exploration of creative, sensory, science, blocks, floor and table toys and dramatic centre experiences.
Children between the ages of 2 and 3 years are accomodated in our Early Preschool classroom. Children in this group start to enjoy a more structured day and are helped to become more independent and potty training is encouraged. The classroom is fully equipped with a dramatic centre, arts & crafts station, building blocks and many other toys and equipment. The Early Preschool program encourages and promotes play and self exploration with gentle guidance and direction from their two teachers. Children will be in involved in experiences and activities that focus on language development, early math concepts, gross and fine motor skills as well as creative arts and expression.
The focus of the Preschool program is to ensure children are prepared and confident to enter Kindergarten. Children are encouraged to develop their independence to help prepare them for school. This includes learning to put coats and shoes on and off, going to the toilet and blowing their noses! We maintain a class size of under 20 children with two staff members. This program continues to build on and reinforce the skills learned from Early Preschool. Children will continue to master and refine their math, language and literacy skills and will be involved in both creative and physical activites to strengthen fine and gross motor skills.
Our Nursery School program is a 2.5hr program for children aged 2.5-3.5 years. This program, similarly to our Early Preschool program, provides children with an oppportunity to learn through co-operative play with their peers and teachers, promotes self exploration and allows children to experience a centre based environment.
As part of the Before & After School program, children are transported to and from select schools in Burlington. While children are at Summerhill, they are provided with refreshments and snacks and given opportunities to participate in activities, fun learning exercises, outdoor time and free play.
Our Learning Centre is a service available to school aged children for enrichment or remedial assistance with reading, language and math concepts. To ensure balance to the home, children also complete daily homework assignments with the assistance of our teachers.
